New Students
Thinking about starting your (or your child's) Tang Soo Do training?
No experience necessary! Of course, if you do have experience in Tang Soo Do, or any other martial art, you are just as welcome to join the family!
The Black Tiger family welcomes new students with open arms! Our classes run continuously throughout the year, and you can start at any time.
We suggest visiting, and participating, in a couple of class sessions before signing up for the month.
Uniforms are not required, or even used, by beginning students. Uniforms are ordered for students entering the Advanced Beginner class.
We remove our shoes before entering the dojang, and train barefoot. Sandals and flip-flops work well.
Wear clothes that are comfortable to move around/work out in.
Please remove all jewelry before coming to class.
Saturday Training
On some Saturdays, training is held at one of the dojangs, alternating every month (events). These training sessions are a recommended (but completely optional) supplement to regular class time. "Open" training sessions allow each individual student to pick a topic, other sessions will be taught as a seminar on a given topic, lead by an instructor.
Gup Tests
Gup (rank) tests are held quarterly, and participation is by invitation only. Students must be currently registered with all fees paid to be eligible for testing. Students are tested on their knowledge and performance of hyung (forms), basics, one-step sparring techniques, shadow sparring or free sparring against an opponent (depending on rank), and finishing with board breaking.
Little Tigers
The Parent & Child "Little Tigers" program is a special session designed to allow you and your child(ren) to learn basic karate together. This session introduces you and your child(ren) to karate through structured activities, with an emphasis on fun.
Each class is divided into short segments designed to benefit both the children and parents. These segments introduce and strengthen the following concepts:
|
· Discipline |
· Concentration |
|
· Basic karate techniques |
· Stranger awareness |
|
· Basic motor skill development/enhancement |
· Adult self-defense |
The program is designed to help the children develop self-discipline, self-esteem, concentration and respect in a positive and safe family environment. The program is also designed to help the adults with greater self-confidence, coordination and providing fun ways to work out with your child.
